Waterfox is a high performance browser based on the Mozilla Firefox source code. This code is taken and compiled to run specifically for 64-Bit Windows computers.

To make Waterfox stand out a bit more, it’s compiled with optimizations. Therefore that it will run more efficiently and faster than just compiling Mozilla Firefox as a 64-Bit program.

Waterfox focuses on giving users choice while also helping make the world a better place. It is partners with Ecosia, a search engine that plants trees with its generated revenues. The browser itself is focused on power users, which lets you make the important decisions.

There is no plugin whitelist, you can run whichever extensions you like and absolutely no data or telemetry will be send back to Mozilla or the Waterfox project.

This web browser is based on the current stable Firefox build, which means it functions in exactly the same way. Aside from its name on the menu at the top of the main window, there’s nothing to differentiate it from Firefox. Waterfox shares your Firefox settings, so should you come to uninstall it. Don’t select the option to delete all personal information if you’re still using Firefox. And your add-ons and extensions work on any version of Firefox, on any platform!

• Auto-hide vertical tabs. Keep the sidebar hidden until you move your mouse to the edge of the window.
• Prevent tabs from widening when audio plays. A new option under Settings → Appearance → Tab bar lets you prevent audio indicators from changing tab widths.

Fixes

• Restored country flag emoji on Windows.
• Fixed a problem that prevented older extensions, including Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar redux and Tab Mix Plus, from loading.
• Fixed an issue where every vertical tab showed the active tab highlight. Only the selected tab is now highlighted.
• The missing options to fade unloaded tabs and grey out their icons have been restored in the Nova and Proton styles.
• Tab close buttons now remain accessible when the vertical sidebar is narrowed.
• Fixed issues where the New Private Tab button made the sidebar too wide or remained visible when disabled.
• Bookmark menu spacing options now apply to the Menu Bar’s Bookmarks dropdown.
• The search engine selector no longer retains rounded corners when square buttons are enabled.

• New backup folders are now named Restore Waterfox. Backup folders created previously are still supported.
• Fixed conflicting keyboard shortcuts in the French right click menu.

Improvements

• Improved compatibility with JPEG XL images.
• Restored the standard new tab page layout while keeping recommended stories and sponsored content disabled.
