µTorrentµTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. µTorrent was designed to use as little cpu, space and memory as possible while offering all the functionalites expected from advanced clients. With BitTorrent, you can download files faster and contribute by sharing files and bandwidth. Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in µTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). Additionally, µTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above, BitComet 0.63 and above) and peer exchange. µTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources – typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren’t there at all. Additionally, the program itself is contained within a single executable less than 750 KB in size.
Various icon, toolbar graphic and status icon replacements are available, and creating your own is very simple. µTorrent also has support for localization, and with a language file present, will automatically switch to your system language. If your language isn’t available, you can easily add your own, or edit other existing translations to improve them!

Features of “µTorrent”:
• Multiple simultaneous downloads
• Smart bandwidth usage
• File level priorities
• Configurable bandwidth scheduling
• Global and per-torrent speed limiting
• Quickly resumes interrupted transfers
• UPnP support (WinXP only)
• Supports popular protocol extensions
• Trackerless support (Mainline DHT)
• Localized to different languages
• Typical memory use less than 6 MB
• Incredibly small: about 900 KB

µTorrent 3.3 Release highlights:
• Disk I/O system completely rewritten. Now multi-threaded and high performance. It will take advantage of multiple disks, perform better with even just one, and no one disk job can block everything (e.g slow network blocking local I/O, or allocating files)
• Auto-labeling and per-label download directories (Preferences -> Label)
• Search items in Advanced preferences
• Paired device removal

Changes in Version 3.1.3 stable (build 27220), 2012-05-14:
- Fix: free content offer in installer didn’t actually add

Changes in Version 3.2 beta (build 27226), 2012-05-15:
- Fix: Bad outgoing request_peer DHT message when filename length over 100
- Change: uTP now uses a retransmit counter rather than a timer for killing connections with packet loss.
- Fix: Fixed not sending MTU probes.
- Fix: fixed savedir issue for magnet links that was resolved in the add torrent dialog
- Fix: possible deadlock when reporting a hang
- Change: Do torrent deletes before other kinds of work

Changes in Version 3.3 alpha (build 27184), 2012-05-08:
- Fix: issue where uTorrent would not make outgoing connections under certain circumstances
- Fix: magnet links would not have a correct added-on date
- Change: uTP now uses a retransmit counter rather than a timer for killing connections with packet loss.

i tested bitcomet, utorrent and finally vuze.now i wil give my review acc to my experience(note:i tested with same torrent at same time, ports forwarded for these 3 clients while testing)

1.bitcomet – of all these bitcomet is da fastest downloader even it grasps very less number of seeds when compared to utorrent and vuze but worst part of bitcomet is its downloads are very unstable ,and other client users and private trackers ban it while downloading and bitcomet takes lots of time to download a file even if its da fastest downloader

2.utorrent – i know this is da world leading one but acc my experience its slowest downloader among the 3 which i tested and light weight one.grasps more number of seeds when compared to bitcomet.comlpetes downloading a given file quickly than bitcomet even its slowest one

3.VUZE – and finally vuze.this is da BEST torent client acc my tests(i am not argiuing with others opinions).it almost reaches da download speeds of bitcomet and grasps more number of seeds and had lots of exclusive options and features which are absent both in bitcomet and utorrent and stood ALWAYS first to complete downloads when compared with bitcomet n utorrent

acc to my tests, results :  first place goes to VUZE absolutely
and da worst is bitcomet ,utorrent is better than bitcomet.this acc to my experience(not arguiung with others opinion, its my individual opinion only),thats all thank u

I found the opposite to be true. Checking “Enable Bandwidth Management” option sped up my downloads by quite a bit. I guess it all depends on what you have for an ISP.

On the forum of my ISP, admin posted screens with suggested settings for uTorrent, uTP is enabled and encryption is forced, no probs with down/up speeds. Check if your ISP have some instructions :)

In my opinion I think that version 1.8 of uTorrent was the best, because the latest versions have “usefull addons” (adware), the toolbar (more adware) and some silent installs even though you choose not to install the previous mentioned.

Now I’m using Tixati, fast, lightweight and more customizable than uTorrent. And best of all, not filled with crap.

There’s also a version for Windows, Mac Os and more…

Not sure if I like the new GUI of utorrent 3.x Everything is bigger. If you have a lot of torrents in the queque window at the top, it isn’t good.

I reverted back to 2.2.1 build 25273 which was the last build of the 2.x versions. I cannot see the point of the extra bloat either. It makes no sense and does not add to what this client has to offer.

regardless of version check first if your tracker allows it. some private trackers just don’t allow any version as it report bad data.

I’m a noob to torrents and having fun with them. I tried them all at default settings, and found Bit Torrent to be tops for me. I thought Tixati was the best, but I can’t figure out why downloading at 70 KBs sucks up most of my bandwidth that runs at 10MB/s very strange. I tried looking through options and can;t seem to find anything that works. So sticking with Bit Torrent for now
