CleanMem is a application to free and optimize your computer’s RAM (Random Access Memory), resulting in an increase in system performance and productivity. This kind of tool is highly recommended for users who have a small amount of RAM installed on their computer, making it difficult to simultaneously handle multiple processes.

CleanMem keeps memory use in check on the system without the memory being pushed to the page file. This in turn keeps the system running smoother. CleanMem Works by calling a Windows API.

CleanMem doesn’t change the working set of a processes. It simply asks Windows to do all the work. So Windows does the trimming, the moving and manages everything. This is why there is never any crashes of programs and any performance hit to the system.

To put it short CleanMem doesn’t work against the Windows memory manager, it works with it.

The GUI is standard, but the program can be difficult to use by beginners (especially if they are not familiarized with scripts). In the Advanced Monitor section found in Mini Monitor you have to enable CleanMem to automatically run every given number of minutes, when memory usage surpasses a certain level (a similar option can also be enabled to automatically clean file cache).

You can enable or disable the system file cache clearance and log files creation, and select operating mode (all processes, ignore list, or only list). In addition, you can install and edit a task scheduler, a feature that lets you create and manage common tasks, but also connect to another computer.

CleanMem itself is totally free. After installing it will auto run every 15 min by the Windows Task Scheduler. Once installed it is set it and forget it. Just as it always has been. You can configure CleanMem to do more advanced things such as ignore lists, only lists, and log files.

The Mini Monitor is the only part of CleanMem that is the Free/Pro. The Pro version of the mini monitor is simply extra features, such as tools and information.

One very important thing is that there are no nag screens in the free version of the mini monitor and no pop ups asking you to upgrade to pro or anything like that. So the free version is still as helpful as it was before and the pro version adds more control and options for the power users.
