Serv-U is a powerful, easy-to-use, Windows-based multi-protocol FTP, SFTP and HTTP file server, created by Rob Beckers. It allows files to be shared over the Internet via unencrypted protocols like FTP and HTTP or securely via FTPS, SFTP, or HTTPS. Using a built-in web service the software can be configured remotely from any location with Internet access and a web browser, and two built-in file transfer clients allow for file management without requiring pre-installed FTP/SFTP client software. Serv-U is not only 100% compliant with the current FTP, SFTP and HTTP standards, but also includes numerous features unique to Serv-U that make it a perfect file sharing solution for virtually everyone. Serv-U features an open architecture that makes it very easy to extend, monitor, and change the server behavior with external DLLs. Serv-U supports separate listeners for IPv6 addresses, IPv6 CIDR support, IPv6 access rules, and logging. Serv-U supports IPv6 without losing any functionality supported with IPv4.
Serv-U offers the following:
• Easy to set up and use.
• A Windows standard, with over 50000 registered users!
• Support for Secure-FTP through SSL/TLS.
• Support for ODBC databases for accounts.
• Lots of security through passwords, read/write/append/modify rights per directory or file for each user (including Anonymous), and access restrictions based on IP address.
• Fast and rock solid!
• Multiple ‘virtual’ FTP servers can be set up on a single instance of Serv-U.
• Server can be administered remotely.
• Supports S/KEY one-time passwords.
• Support for temporary accounts that are automatically deleted upon expiration.
• Support for UL/DL ratios, disk quota limitations, network bandwidth limiting, and automatic anti-anti-time-out plus anti-hammering measures.
• Full UNC path support.
• Support for virtual paths. Directories or drives can be mapped to any location in a user’s directory structure.
• Support for ‘links’ such as those used in UNIX.
• Full support for all ‘ls’ directory listing options.
• Support for messages to users, or from users to the server.
• Users can be put into groups for easy maintenance of large numbers.
• A complete implementation of the FTP standard in RFC959, RFC1123, RFC1760, RFC2228, RFC2246, RFC2289, RFC2389 and the Secure-FTP draft.
• Supports resuming of file uploads and downloads.
• Configurable messages for sign-on, sign-off, login, and directory changes.
• Has time-out and time-limit features, so connections are automatically
cleared when idle, hung, or connected too long.
• Easy to setup and maintain through a separate administrator program. For automated maintenance the settings are stored in either an .INI file, registry, or ODBC database of simple format.
• Has an open architecture which makes monitoring, changing and extending the server behavior possible through external DLLs.
• Logs all transactions to file and screen that can be read by other applications. Includes unique session IDs, time, and date stamps.
Serv-U Corporate addresses the need for a business-class FTP server with no limitations and the ability to grow with your business.
With this in mind, Serv-U Corporate allows the following:
• ODBC database support
• Integrated SSL Support
• Unlimited domains with an unlimited number of concurrent connections
• Unlimited number of user accounts
• Support for directory mapping and links
• Support of UL/DL ratios and quotas
• Support for remote administration
• Windows User NT-SAM / Active Directory Support

you use it pretty often eh? So you don’t keep it running/run it as a service?
The issue dissappears if you keep restarting the service. Try leaving it open for 24 hours and if you’ve had it installed longer than 30 days, I guarantee it won’t work.
I’ve been using Serv-U fulltime for months, this has been an issue for a long, long time.
even though you uncheck the autoupdate check it still checks regardless.

I forgot if you don’t need an SSL server try BulletProof FTP
No idea if there is a timebimb yet, but it’s still worth checking out.

if you are looking for an alternative ftp program you should try Cerberus. It is not as feature packed as Serv-U but it is free and does the job well.
I’m sticking with 6.4.0.4 It’s the only one that has the best GUI. Ever since 7.x release the GUI sucks.

I don’t like java-based applications at all. Serv-U v6.4.0.2 is easier to set up and has a lot fewer menus then this newer version. Why Serv-u decided to go the java route is beyond me. It runs slower between menus as well. Serv-U v6.4.0.2 For The Win.

Here is what i did to run serv-u without constantly changing the dll file.
Copy the servu dll file and copy it for example to your desktop. Now install cobian backup (they just released version 10) You need to configure cobian as follow.
config before backup
1) stop the serv-u service
2) pause for 10seconds
Now the backup will start copying the servudll from the desktop to overwrite the one in program files.
config after backup
1) start serv-u.
Now i have cobian backup running for months without problems. The only downpart is that because cobian needs to shut down the serv-u service you loose statistics. But i dont care.
I have set the timer to every 360min to make a backup
If u need help configuring cobian mail me
I just have the windows scheduler running a batch file that restarts the service. It happens fast enough most clients auto-reconnect. Like you said, you lose your statistics tho.
btw, if you restart the service every 12 hours it won’t phone home
As with every release that gets posted on here, they Keygen you post is NOT FOR THIS VERSION. The NFO clearly reads 9.1.0.0
I can’t understand why people keep doing that. Besides, even with a working keygen, it still phones home and knows it’s invalid after 30 days.
I really wish someone could crack this for good. As it stands now, after the initial 30 days, you have to stop and restart the service about every 12 hours or it will phone home and deactivate itself.
Posting non-working and outdated fixes is the habit here,
Because the greed for a few lousy pennies or premium points has replaced the community spirit of file sharing since the hosting services had the idea to appeal to their shabby low instincts.
Don’t fall for the usual “tested & working” lie, they don’t test squat but merely post a screenshot of the window right after setup, before a reboot or anything similar. Age-old key generators and cracks get re-packed with the latest release again and again, and even when somebody points out that they have long stopped working, what gets deleted is not the crap but the warning — after all, lots of traffic generate advertising income for the site.
This alliance has led most of us to not even bother with feedback any more. I merely wanted to let you know to save you some frustration.

Thanks for letting me know. I too have faced the frustration here of finding most releases to be packaged with outdated cracks and then listed as working here.
I guess that explains why a lot of my posts have been erased since I started here. Thanks again.
Qui Peccavit I think you’re over-stating your point just a bit. Most of the programs I download from here (98%+) work fine. It’s just Serv-U and a couple other hard-to-crack programs that some people keep post non-working or old fixes for. The key is to download from long time standing members here like Waytogo and maksimog, FreeRyde, and Corona, just to name a few. As for Serv-U program, I use 6.4.0.2 It’s the only version of this I like before it went to Java based application. Java applications suck big time, IMO.
Be warned: Updating from v 9.x to 10.x will completely hose any SSH/SFTP settings you have.
