    With regard to the naive statement that Google was a better translation software than Babylon: no, but neither of them is the best anyway. Of course any evaluation depends on which dictionaries you have installed, what kind of texts need to be translated with which degree of accuracy (merely navigating a foreign website or important legal documents) and, most of all, whether a user speaks and writes both the source and target language well enough to be able to make an educated judgement — and the necessary corrections — of the automated raw translation.

    As somebody who speaks six languages and can passively grasp another two, I regard  the best translation software as the one that handles figurative expressions correctly, knows of cultural habits and so on, so that as little manual correction as possible is required after the automated translation run and when translating back to the source language. Obviously, scientific texts or articles that are written properly in the source language (grammar, orthography, sentence structure and so on) will result in better translations than the crap uttered on online fora, social networks, IM chats and the like these days, where ignorant nitwits give away the fact that education is getting worse with every generation.

    Using appropriate, objective criteria of comparison between professional translation packages from Linguatec, Pragma, Prompt, etc., there is one software in the price range under $2500 USD that clearly beats all the others: Systran Premium Pro.

    Unfortunately, cracks seldom work reliably for the software, which is why it is not even presented on sites like Softexia, but anybody who ever got Systran Pro Premium in their grasp agrees. Only large corporate solutions for film studios, editorial houses or the like, in the tens of thousands of Dollars range, provide more accurate results.

    Babylon or Google are nice as a digital dictionary for simple short phrases and individual words, but as a translation software for the desktop, nothing beats Systran Pro Premium.

    @Qui Peccavit:
    I could not get Systran 7 so I got and installed Systran 6. I hope that v7 has been greatly improved; a document translated from portuguese to english using Systran 6 rendered results which were no better than using Google translator.
    Are there dictionaries available for this program which would render better translations?
    Again, thanks for your posts and for any other info which you may give us.
